Due to the Community Governance Review undertaken by Eden District Council (EDC) the old Ousby Parish Council dissolved on 31.03.2019, and was replaced by 2 new parish councils – Ousby Parish Council & Melmerby Parish Council.

This is the website for the new Ousby Parish Council constituted on 01.04.2019.

Ousby is a small rural community of 194 No. electors located on the East Fellside, some 10 miles from Penrith in the beautiful Eden valley of Cumbria. The village consists of a string of hamlets (Ousby Moor, Crewgarth, Shire, Bradley, Hole, Row, Fellside and Townhead) separated by green spaces and sits in the path of the Helm wind.

Ousby is a ‘Thankful Village’, one of 52 parishes in England and Wales that suffered no losses during World War I. Please see the following link for more information on Ousby being a ‘Thankful Village’ http://thankful-villages.co.uk/category/villages/ousby/. Ousby is a ‘Doubly Thankful Village’ – not only did all 12 men who served in WWI return home, but all 13 men and women who served in the Second World War also came back.

The village has a pub (Fox Inn), a community centre, a part-time community post office, a village green with children’s play equipment, a public garden (Ruh Head Close) and a church (St Luke’s). The Fellrunner community bus serves the village on three days each week. The nearest shop for newspapers and sundry groceries is in Melmerby.

Ousby is a working village with an agricultural-based economy, plus some tourism through holiday homes and a caravan park.

Village housing is a mixture of older sandstone properties, farms, new estate houses, modern bungalows and social housing.

Ousby’s residents have a strong sense of place – they value and love where they live.

Ousby parish council acts on the community’s needs and aspirations to protect the things that make this neighbourhood special, deliver value-for-money quality local services and help this Fellside community develop in a sustainable way.

The May 2023 parish council elections for Ousby are uncontested:
